Friend or Foe: Veterinary Practice in the Face(book) of Change
Jason Coe, DVM, PhD
Starts: 03/26/11 at 10:40am

Facebook is one of the most popular social network sites in the world. As a result, many professions including veterinary medicine have begun to use it as a marketing tool for connecting with clients. However, findings of a recent study suggest veterinarians (and likely veterinary staff) practice high self-disclosure on Facebook, and tend not to use privacy settings that would limit public access to their profiles. This activity produces inherent risks, particularly to practices that have adopted using Facebook marketing strategies to draw clients' attention to their practice. This presentation will raise awareness to some of the hazards that can exist for veterinary practices in relation to social networks and discuss some practical guidelines that can be implemented to diffuse potential risks.
